Building on the success of last year's inaugural event and the mission of WYSEF, Taste of the Trails is designed to encourage skiers of all ages and abilities to try cross-country skiing in a simple and festive format. A 5km (3.1 mile) course will take skiers and snowshoers around the Rendezvous Ski Trails. Four feed stations are staffed by volunteers and offer snacks and beverages to participating skiers. Skiers can casually stride from spot to spot, revel in the winter landscapes, refuel with friends, and explore the trails in a relaxed, non-competitive atmosphere.

For those familiar with the Rendezvous Ski Trails, the course will start at the Trailhead Building, through the In & Out Trail to the main junction. Feed station #1 will be located in front of the large trail map and will feature appetizers. Skiers will then be directed along Rendezvous Loop to the junction with Jerry's Journey to Feed Station #2, the 'soup station'. This allows for one minor hill on the course making it fun for experienced skiers and feasible for beginners.
Continue on Rendezvous Loop to Spencer Cut-off. At the next major junction, continue on Drewski to where it joins Deja View. Take a quick left, then right onto the Sprint loop which will bring you back to the Biathlon Range and cabin for the Feed Station #3, the main course and campfires to huddle around.
The final leg of the course will return to the trailhead building via Purple Haze where Feed Station #4,
dessert, music, and a party atmosphere will be waiting!
Interested in staying for the weekend? There are many ski opportunities inside Yellowstone National Park, as well as Sunday, Feb. 12th discounts on Snowcoach tours from Backcountry Adventures & Yellowstone Alpen Guides for Taste of the Trails participants. Contact them directly for details.
Taste of the Trails has been scheduled to compliment the final Spam Cup Race of the winter season. The Spam Cup is a series of citizen races providing a fun race experience for junior and master skiers. Winners receive a custom-decorated Spam Trophy (and priceless bragging rights). Many racers bring the company of their non-competitive friends and family to Spam Cup Races.
Taste of the Trails is a unique ski experience with a friendly environment and fun, festive atmosphere. All visitors are warmly welcomed to West Yellowstone and invited to explore other local cross-country ski trails. We encourage groups of all abilities to ski together!
