Frequently Asked Questions

1)       Where are the Rendezvous Ski Trails?

The Rendezvous Ski Trails are located on US Forest Service land adjacent to the southern boundary of the Town of West Yellowstone. The trailhead is at the south end of Geyser Street and is marked with a distinctive archway.

2)       Were the ski trails groomed today?

The Rendezvous Ski Trails are groomed on an as needed basis except on Tuesdays. Generally speaking, that means they are groomed before and during weekends and after snowstorms. Doug Edgerton of Yellowstone Track Systems grooms the trails and he keeps them in outstanding condition.

3)       Do I need a trail pass?

Yes. From December 1 through March 31, day passes are $5.00 and season passes are $25.00. Passes are available at several locations around town including the Chamber of Commerce Visitor’s Center, Bud Lilly’s Trout Shop, Freeheel & Wheel and at the trailhead. There is a different fee schedule during the month of November and the Yellowstone Ski Festival. During that time day passes are $10.00, three day passes are $25.00 and month of November passes are $45.00.

4)       How long are the trails?

You can link trails to ski 2K or 40K – the options are too numerous to count! Check out the Trail Map for more information.

5)       What is the terrain like?

The terrain varies from trail to trail but, generally speaking, the trails are rolling with lots of mellow climbs and descents.

6)       Can I bring my dog with me?

Sorry, no dogs are allowed on the Rendezvous Ski Trails. There is a dog friendly trail that follows the boundary of Yellowstone National Park.  You can access it from the truck stop just north of town and ski to Baker's Hole Campground, roundtrip approx 6-7 miles.

7)       Will we see any wildlife?

In the summer, elk, moose and bears make their home in and around the Rendezvous Ski Trails. During the winter, you are less likely to see any of these animals but keep your eyes open for birds, pine martens and other small critters.

8)       Should I skate ski or classic ski?

The trails are groomed for both skate and classic skiing.

9)       Are there bathrooms anywhere on the ski trails?

There are bathrooms at the trailhead and near the warming hut at the biathlon range.
